New bistrology concept heads Praia d’El Rey’s 2018 culinary menu

Guests can indulge in a new array of five-star dining experiences at Praia D’El Rey Marriott Golf & Beach Resort from this spring following an upgrade of the restaurant facilities at the luxury Lisbon resort.

A new ‘bistrology’ concept at the rebranded Emprata restaurant – one of five restaurants at the award-winning resort – heads the mouth-watering choice of culinary options available over the coming months.

Overlooking the hotel gardens with the Atlantic Ocean providing the backdrop, Emprata’s new ‘bistrology’ menu is inspired by food offering authentic local flavours and dishes that have been designed to be shared in a unique and casual dining experience.

Guests can feast on an array of regional and seasonal products on a menu that is updated several times a year, with a selection of dishes featuring locally-sourced meat and fish among the options available.

Lavish cuisine is also on offer in abundance at the recently-renovated Oceano restaurant, while visitors can indulge their love of seafood at Mare, accompanied by the best wines and breath-taking views of the Atlantic.

With two 18-hole championship layouts including the stunning West Cliffs Golf Links – named ‘World’s Best New Golf Course’ at the 2017 World Golf Awards and one of the new stars of European golf – there’s also plenty to whet the appetites of golfers.

Featuring spectacular views of the Atlantic from every hole, the Cynthia Dye-designed layout only opened last summer but is already predicted to be the new number one in Portugal.

Both West Cliffs and Praia D’El Rey are ranked among the top courses in Europe, while players of all abilities can also improve their skills at the resort’s recently-upgraded golf academy.

Autumn Indulgence on Offer with ‘Golf & Taste’ at Argentario Golf Resort & Spa

For golfers with a love of gastronomy, Argentario Golf Resort & Spa (www.argentarioresort.comin south west Tuscany is offering a ‘Golf & Taste’ experience this autumn as the region celebrates the grape and olive harvests with a series of food festivals.

After a round of golf over Argentario’s stunning layout overlooking the Orbetello Lagoon, foodies canindulge themselves in culinary delights created by chef Riccardo Cappelli in the Resort’s stylish Dama Dama Restaurant, named after the fallow deer that occasionally roam the resort.

Based on the flavours and colours of the local terrain, Cappelli’s cuisine is prepared using authentic produce from small, carefully-selected local farms and, at this time of the year, with some ingredients coming directly from the hotel’s organic vegetable garden and orchard.

During October, for example, Argentario will be harvesting its own olives from the ancient groves that border the back nine of the golf course. The olive oil produced from the crop will be used in the preparation of the Tuscan specialties in the Restaurant and can also be sampled by guests in its pure form, simply with bread.

The design hotel near Porto Ercole on the Monte Argentario peninsula has also teamed up with a number of wineries and olive oil mills in the Maremma and runs tasting tours to the Le Mortelle Winery, for example, which is owned by the historic wine family of Antinori.  Guests can visit the winery, complete with wine tasting, as part of the ‘Golf & Taste’ package or as an independent excursion during a stay in this stunning part of Tuscany.

 

Another interesting foodie option is a visit to Frantoio Franci, a charming olive oil mill in the idyllic landscape of Val d’Orcia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Frantoio Franci produces a range of top quality extra virgin olive oils which can be tasted during a visit alongside a small aperitif of honey, cheese and red wine. It’s just a pleasant one-hour drive from coastal Monte Argentario, across the Tuscan countryside and to the medieval hamlet of Montenero d’Orcia.

 

Whilst Tuscan cuisine is delicious year-round, for many visitors there is something special about theseasonal dishes that are produced in the autumn. Added to which, at this time of the year, many of the nearby villages honour the harvest with festivals where visitors can taste seasonal produce such as chestnuts and savour local wines. For the foodie foragers, there are also opportunities to go hunting for mushrooms and truffles.

 

Between late October and early November, a host of festivals take place around the Argentario Promontory like the unique Gustatus Wine & Food Festival (31 October to 4 November) in the nearby town of Orbetello which features food and wine tastings, cultural events, street artists and live music. Other events on nearby in the autumn include:

 

Ø  Grape Festival on Giglio Island – 27, 28 & 29 September 2018. Open wineries and tastings from 8pm in the village of Castello.

Ø  Bruschetta and Olio Nuovo Festival in Montegiovi – 29 & 30 September 2018.

Ø  Grape Festival in Scansano – 29 & 30 September 2018. Open wineries to pay homage to the DOCG red wine, Morellino di Scansano.

Ø  Grape Festival in Cinigiano – 4, 5, 6, 7 & 8 October 2018. In addition to wine tastings, there is also a float parade.

Ø  Amiantino Mushroom Festival in Bagnolo – 6, 7, 13 & 14 October 2018.

Ø  Chestnut Festival in Monticello Amiata – 12, 13 & 14 October 2018.

Ø  Chestnut Festival in Arcidosso – 19, 20 &21 October 2018.

Ø  Wine Festival “Gustatus” in Orbetello – from 31 October to 4 November 2018. Tastings, cultural events, street artists and live music in the streets of the pretty lagoon town.

New Gastronomic Offerings at the Leading La Cala Resort

La Cala Resort is embarking upon on a new journey in the hopes of becoming the standard for tourism and sport in the south of Spain. In this effort, the resort revamped its management two months ago, putting it in the hands of Sean Corte Real and has recently hired Daniel Peinado, the well-known AOVE (Virgen Olive Oil) chef, through whom the resort would like to reach a new level of gastronomic excellence.

La Cala Resort is taking another step forward with the incorporation of Sean Corte Real as the new director of the complex, continuing on the path to excellence it began a few years ago. Daniel García Peinado, the famous AOVE (Virgin Olive Oil) chef has also been added on to polish the culinary selection that the resort offers. The new director comes from a long career in the international luxury resort sector and is committed to bringing La Cala Resort up to an international level. He is working hard to improve quality in order to surpass where it is today. He is also making efforts to improve customer satisfaction by meeting and exceeding their expectations, as well as responding to their search for experiences.

Sean Corte Real invited a specialised media group (press, radio, television and bloggers) and collaborators, travel agents and incentive agencies in order to share details on the new direction the complex is taking and the changes that he wants to galvanise in order to situate the resort at the forefront of Andalusia’s tourism industry.

During the presentation he emphasised that “we have a fantastic product and one of the best spas on the Costa del Sol”. He assured that “we are always reaching for improvement”. Corte Real reminded everyone that La Cala Resort will celebrate its 30th anniversary next year and reported on the most recent renovations to the golf facilities such as the development of “the America course with new bunkers and greens”. “The goal”, he went on to say, “is to have it completely ready by next September”. This will be followed by the Asia and Europe courses that will also undergo major upgrades.

 

La Cala Resort

The new Executive Chef, Daniel García Peinado, shared a selection of tapas at the El Laurel restaurant at the Casa Club and ideas that are being solidified in terms of the style he wants to develop. “The idea is to update the food we offer in order to be current with the times,” he said. This renovation will include three restaurants, each with their own touch. Fast and casual, yet healthy, cuisine will characterise the Casa Club, while La Bodega will offer Andalusian-inspired tapas “using virgin olive oil as the base”. In terms of La Terraza, the most gourmet restaurant of the three, “my philosophy comes from Aove-based cuisine, but with hints of global culture, since most guests are international”. In general, Peinado’s cooking revolves around four fundamental axes: Aove, accessible products and healthy, Mediterranean food.

Sean Corte Real
Corte Real competed for several years as a player in high-level tournaments all over Europe before moving on to hotel management. Over the course of his career, he has held executive positions at Vila Sol Spa&Resort de Vilamoura in the Algarve (Portugal), which was named “Best Beach Destination” at the World Travel Awards 2013 in large part due to Corte Real’s work. He also held a leadership position at Iguassu Golf Resort in Foz do Iguaçu (Brazil). Shortly afterwards, he took over the management of operations at Las Colinas Golf&Country Club in Alicante (Spain), one of the top golf resorts in Europe.

Daniel García Peinado
The main ingredient of the new Executive Chef’s cuisine is Extra Virgin Olive Oil and he is always sure to use the latest culinary and avant-garde techniques. Trained at La Cónsula, he has worked in the United Kingdom and at Restaurante Lasarte de Martin Berasategui (three Michelin stars). Following his time at Molina Lario (Málaga capital), Holiday Hydros and Vincci Selección Aleysa, García Peinado has gained extensive experience at luxury hotels. Currently, he is a gastronomic advisor, Executive Chef of Gourmet de la Roja and captain of the Spanish Professional Cooking Team.

 

It is worth mentioning that on the 6th of June, La Cala Resort was awarded Best Luxury Mountain Hotel at the SPAIN LUXURY HOTEL AWARDS, which recognises the efforts made by hotels to be considered among the best in their field. Evaluation is based on excellence in client services and resort design, environment and management. The resort has now been nominated for the World Spa Awards 2018 in the category of “Best Hotel Spa” in Spain.
